In 2011, Malwarebytes acquired HPhosts, a website blacklisting company, which tracks blacklisted websites and ad servers, a necessary development to protect against new internet protocol addresses and web servers which distribute malware, and advise internet service providers to shut down those with malicious activity.[10] That year, the company had claimed to have removed over five billion pieces of Malware in three years.[8] The following year, the company launched into the corporate market with an enterprise product aimed at desktop-based anti-malware detection and protection.[11] In 2013, Malwarebytes acquired ZeroVulnerabilityLabs, Inc., a security research and development company founded by Pedro Bustamante, which protects software applications from "known and zero-day exploits used by exploit kits, web-based vulnerability exploits and other corporate-targeted attacks".[12] They expanded their malware removal and protection to the Android platform with the launch of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile,[13] and launched a USB-based product called Malwarebytes Techbench aimed at helping technicians remove malware.[14]
In January 2016, Malwarebytes unveiled advanced anti-ransomware package Endpoint Security,[17] and announced that it had raised $50 million in investment from Fidelity Management and Research Company. Kleczynski stated that the funds would be used primarily for the company's hiring, product development and marketing assets.[9] In June, Malwarebytes announced a strong growth in sales of over 75 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to 2015, with billings surpassing $100 million. The corporate subscription base for the company was reported to have grown by 90%.[18] In September, Proofpoint, Inc. CEO Gary Steele joined the company's board of directors, with Kleczynski citing his "deep expertise in the security software industry, and his proven ability [at] increasing sales revenue" as the main reasons for his appointment.[19] In October the company purchased AdwCleaner, a Windows program used to clean adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) from computers.[20] In February 2017 the company acquired Saferbytes, an Italian security start-up specialized in anti-malware, anti-exploit, anti-rootkit, cloud AV, and sandbox technologies.[21]

Kleczynski has stated that Malwarebytes, first developed in 2008, has a competitive advantage over many other traditional antivirus programs, many of which were developed in the late 1990s, before the development of many later forms of malware.[6] The New York Times has described Malwarebytes as a "hybrid of heuristics, behavior and a signature engine that is designed to detect and block malware that other vendors can't detect".[10] According to Dean Takahashi of VentureBeat, Malwarebytes complements other antivirus software from vendors such as Symantec and McAfee, with the anti-malware working alongside other anti-virus software to attack the problem from "different directions", remarking that the software both removed infections from infected machines, whilst preventing others from becoming infected in the first place.[8]
The software license[42] requires arbitration "in the county where you reside", forbids class action suits, reverse engineering and sharing, and limits warranties and liability. Even the free version may not be shared, since the company tracks use of the product separately for each user.
The company also collects detailed information on malware and exploits they find, tied to the user's license number and device identifier, "vendor... File path of exploit process... Command-line arguments passed to the exploit... (Potentially) a copy of the exploit executable itself".[44] The company does not list the license number as PII.

I've been hanging around these forums since before Malwarebytes Anti-Malware even existed (back when the only product they had was RogueRemover) and I was around through the first betas for the original Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware product and actually started working for Malwarebytes as their first QA and eventually became their first Product Manager (I was in charge of all products, including Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) and I know for a fact that it was always 1 device per license for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Pro lifetime licenses. They weren't competing with big AVs back then because they always marketed themselves as a complementary solution to be run alongside an active antivirus/IS solution (the layered approach to security) and only began marketing Malwarebytes as an AV replacement with the launch of Malwarebytes 3, and by then they had already gone to a yearly subscription. I think what might be confusing a lot of people is that early on when Malwarebytes first changed over to the yearly subscription model rather than the lifetime license model, they did only offer 1 license for 3 devices (though it was for a yearly fee, obviously, not lifetime) and this was the first time Malwarebytes offered anything other than single device licenses for consumers (business licensing was always handled differently and was always based on yearly subscriptions from the start) and I believe that may be what many users are remembering; either that, or some unscrupulous sellers pushing fake licenses/cracks etc. may have been advertising it as a 3 device per license solution since that was the standard for the big AVs at the time and such scammers would often copy/paste much of their content from one product page to another, only changing the product name, images and pricing as necessary.
No problem, with everything that's happening lately I can totally understand why you might have those impressions, but I assure you the same people are still running the company and their goals of making the best anti-malware solutions out there have not changed (this is why they still offer the free version without any limitations on how long a user can keep it, update it, scan with it and remove every threat or PUP it detects with it; they feel that the users who see the value in the additional features offered by the Premium version and want that protection will be willing to pay for it and for everyone else they are still willing to help them to keep their systems clean (this is also why they continue to offer free expert assistance with computer issues and malware removal here on the forums free of charge for everyone, not just paid Malwarebytes customers)).
Obviously some things have had to change as the company has grown, but this is normal for all businesses in the software industry because the way a small startup operates and functions is fundamentally different from how a much larger company must operate because a lot of startup methods don't scale and of course larger companies get more attention and are more scrutinized by governments, other businesses and of course consumers so they have to ensure that everything that they do is in line with all regulations and laws and that they have all the appropriate legalese (EULAs, disclaimers etc.) that they are required to have. Smaller companies and indie developers don't have to worry about that stuff as much, but the larger ones do and this can force them to rethink some of the ways they do things, and of course as they take on more users and customers they are held to higher expectations with regards to functionality outside of the core features of the products they offer (things like a licensing portal for managing licenses and devices for example; something most security software vendors have these days) and so Malwarebytes is growing into that role and taking on these additional responsibilities and rolling out these new and enhanced features, however thankfully they still have the same brilliant Researchers and Developers they've always had and they've expanded those teams to build more powerful tools for the war against malware and they continue to bring more features to their core product Malwarebytes Premium to stay on top of the latest threats and methods in use by the bad guys.
There are a number of antiviruses available in the global market, but Malwarebytes with its licensed version is an all-in-one tool to protect you against viruses, malware, spyware, Trojans, adware, and other malicious activity.
The Scan category gives users the option to run a normal threat scan or opt for a custom scan. All the whitelisted programs fall under Exclusions and you can update them anytime. Items that you find under Quarantine are usually suspected programs that Malwarebytes Anti-malware separates. For detailed information about the recent scans, you can refer to the Reports tab.
Yes, the software is free to download and comes with a 14-day free trial of its premium counterpart. While the free version only scans and removes malware, the paid software is a complete antivirus program. It offers real-time protection, blocks adware and unwanted programs, and runs scans on a schedule. 2ff7e9595c
